Headshots Sessions completed it was time to turn my attention to teaching with a Fine Art Nude Photography Masterclass on Sunday 29th October. Throughout the day students worked with Two different Fine Art Nude Models, who modelled throughout the day. Learning lighting, camera technique and direction. I will also be returning to LA with several workshops in January/February/March, from Portraiture, to Fine Art Nude.

Making use of all my time in LA I was able to fit in a Portrait Sitting with Actor Rufus Sewell. The sitting had been on the cards for quite some time and I was lucky Rufus was in town on a break from filming The Man In The High Castle. I’m only sharing one portrait from the sitting as the below has been acquired by The National Portrait Gallery in London. The shoot was very memorable, I’ve admired his work for many years and the chance to direct and photograph Rufus was a wonderful experience. The other portraits will be displayed at an exhibition of my work next year so stay tuned.

Using old headshots can be boring. Familiarity breeds contempt. Don’t you get bored with the same look yourself? An updated professional image on your website and social media pages will deliver the message that you care about how you present yourself to others.
The technology in photography is improving every year. You do not want to look outdated, do you? Especially for those of you in the entertainment business, styles and trends change frequently, which is why a new image could also attract new offers.
New online headshots are also beneficial if you are looking to move into a new role or if you have just left a business. The old headshot may associate you with your previous work and a refreshed image can make you feel better about your image. Our looks change without us noticing, so an updated headshot lets people recognise you.
Los Angeles Actress Fiona lakeland recently arranged her Headshots Session at the Glendale Studio. Your Actors Headshots are the first point of contact with Casting Directors. “I am so glad I decided to shoot with Rory when he was in LA this September! I signed up for one of his headshot mini sessions, and though we only shot for 30 minutes, Rory sent me over 250 images to choose from.
I was completely surprised by how many good, and TRULY INTERESTING shots there were. Not only are these photos some of the best headshots I’ve ever had, but they actually look like me… like the real me… like the personality me.
Shortly after starting to use these new shots, I booked an awesome short film playing a role I never would have seen myself playing.
Rory was a true pleasure to work with, he was very professional and made me feel completely at ease. I received all my photos the same day, and his turnaround time and pricing for retouching was fast, very fair, and the quality is excellent.
I highly recommend shooting with Rory if you can!!”
Rory Lewis is a gem to work with! Both highly professional and easy going, he made me feel comfortable even in the short time I had booked. “He utilizes soft lighting, constant motion, and highlights your prominent/individual features. The result is incredibly unique portraits that showcase exactly who you are, not a generic headshot that could be anyone. I’m extremely grateful that I had the opportunity to work with Rory and recommend him highly!”
“Absolutely LOVED shooting with Rory. His guidance during the shoot is fun and very supportive. He has a very kind and generous spirit and makes the session joyful as well as productive. Definitely coming back for more.”
“Such a pleasure working with Rory! He provides an upbeat comfortable shoot and the quality of his shots are always top notch. Would highly highly recommend working with him if you have the opportunity. Very grateful!”
Headshots Sessions completed it was time to turn my attention to teaching with a Portrait Photography Masterclass on Saturday 16th September. Throughout the day students worked with three different subjects, who modelled throughout the day. Learning lighting, camera technique and direction. I will also be returning to LA with several workshops in October, from Portraiture, to Fine Art Nude.
Making use of all my time in LA I was able to fit in a few portrait sittings. The first with Actor Bo Foxworth and Actress Elyse Mirto, capturing a dual portrait for their upcoming theatre production. The siting was very interesting indeed as both Bo and Elyse played around with different characters both serious and comical.

The second sitting with veteran actor Greg Itzin. Itzin has appeared in guest starring roles on various television shows like in “MacGyver”. His most recent major role has been President Charles Logan on the popular television drama 24. He received a Tony Award nomination for his role in the Pulitzer Prize–winning play The Kentucky Cycle. Greg has a stunning facial profile, an actor of incredible skill and talent, Itzin needed very little direction. My idea to capture Greg as the contemptuous villain.

The third and final sitting gave me the opportunity to add to my Caravaggisti Project. In these portraits I have attempted to emulate Caravaggio’s naturalism and dramatic lighting with photographic effect. The subject actor Adrian LaTourelle. Using harsh lighting to create super detail in skin tone, texture and colour and inventive art direction. Adrain screamed in rage, enabling me to capture the energy of the moment.

Actor Weston Meredith, booked his actor’s headshots session at the Los Angeles Photography Studio in Burbank. Weston aimed to increase his casting profile through a new portfolio of headshots.
Throughout the session, I directed Weston through multiple looks. From the High School Jock to the Young Father and even the Detetective. I believe headshots should focus on ‘Actors in the Act’. Relaying emotions and feelings to the lens. Thus demonstrating their creative ability. I’m sure with this new collection of headshots Weston will do very well indeed.
Such a pleasure working with Rory! He provides an upbeat comfortable shoot and the quality of his shots are always top notch. Would highly highly recommend working with him if you have the opportunity. Very grateful!

“Rory has developed his own unique style of working with actors ensuring their photographic headshot experience is an enjoyable; relaxed session; to create the very best in Headshots.”
Harry Groener Los Angeles Actors Headshots (Rory Lewis Photographer)
I have had a few headshot sessions and photoshoots before and I hate having my picture taken. I was put immediately at ease and given slight directions to help change stance and also the thought process for each photo. The pictures themselves are of high quality (even before editing) and in terms of value for money, I would say that for photos of this quality and the quantity of images that you can get afterwards, is phenomenally good value.
I can’t wait for 2 years down the line when I will need new ones. Thanks!

I contacted Rory for an Actors Headshot Session and I was not disappointed. Rory was extremely pleasant and welcoming . As for the session itself I couldn’t have felt more comfortable about my shots. He kept me visually updated throughout the shoot with how they were turning out so that we could adjust and tweak things to get the final shots I was looking for!

Review Centre Review 10/08/2017
“This was the first time I had my headshots done and Rory helped me get through them extremely comfortably. Directing me to get better results out of my headshots with each photo he took. Every step of the way he gave me extremely useful hints and tips in order to help me along and explained in great details what the industry is looking for in the headshots, along with giving me other useful tips on the industry. Both before and after the shoot Rory was excellent at keeping in touch in order to keep me up to date in a professional manner. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a professional photographer.”
You child is unique and that needs to be captured in their casting shots. However, importantly, these aren’t family photo album snaps, but professional images perfectly directed and honed to promote, to make your child stand out from the crowd and be invited for audition. They are your ticket to get through the door. A good headshot will, at its most basic, demonstrate your investment in, and your understanding of, your child’s career, and an understanding that first impressions count.
Last week Sisters Alex & Rachel visited the Liverpool Studio for their Casting Headshots Session. Opting for package two and makeup artist, they where able to enjoy a relaxed headshots session.
I use gentle direction to ensure we get the shots that are needed without your child even knowing they are working. I focus on the attention to detail so that you don’t have to. We will start with a few test shots which we can review on the computer so we can make adjustments as we go. We work in the studio for a time, effectively ‘playing around’ as far as the child is concerned, whilst I ensure the important boxes are ticked such as ensuring lighting reflects film and TV expectations.
